#WorkingWomanWednesday: Taking a STEP in Suede

This Wednesday we’re discussing making steps towards your dreams. I am a firm believer that you have work twice as hard on the work that you truly want to do in work and you know what…. Sometimes you won’t have help. Sometimes you have to believe in your dreams until someone else does. Sometimes you just have to work with what you have. Live in your current circumstances and make the best of it.

If you haven’t noticed yet, most of the photos in this post were taken on steps. These are actually the steps in my apartment. I took ever single one of these photos myself.

It’s a lot of hard work to set up my camera on a tripod, find my own setting and try to find the correct lighting, set a timer, pose for a photo, run over to view the photo, set the timer and do it all over again. It is no easy tasks, but I do it. You want to know why? Because I believe in myself and my dreams. I’d do almost anything to make my dreams come true.

And you know what else? It doesn’t make sense for me to put my all into a job I don’t even like everyday and not come home and give twice as much effort into working on my dreams. I am my dream team! There is no one else there cares about my dreams and success as much as I do!

There are days when I feel quite discouraged because I feel that the quality of my photos would be so much better if I had someone else to take the photos and edit them for me. Sometimes I tell myself that I need a professional photographer, at least someone who knows how to work a camera, in order for my photos to really stand out.

But, the truth of the matter is, there is a lot I can do by myself and a lot that I don’t necessarily NEED help with. My photos look fine, in my opinion. The end result is always quite pleasing to me after I sit and edit them for hours at a time. I honestly have no idea what I’m doing. I don’t know how to work half of the functions of my camera. But, I have the basics down and that’s all that truly matters.

In my opinion, there is a lot that an individual can learn from YouTube and Google. I watch tons of video tutorials. I do lots of research. I don’t always understand what I’m doing or understand the terms being used, but I simply follow the steps and I always make it happen. The quality of my photos and my website are by no means perfect, and it never will be. But the plan is to keep learning and keep growing. I ask questions when I need to. I look for clarification when I don’t fully understand.

I truly believe that there is no limit to the amount of growth an individual could have in our day and time. There are so many tools, free tools, out there that we can all use to develop ourselves and our crafts. If you don’t make use of those tools then you are wasting your own time.

So, remember it’s okay to do things on your own if you are truly determined to grown and learn. The issue is when people want others to do all the work for them with no intent of learning anything and with every intent to take full credit for the work that was done.

I am by no means saying that you shouldn’t ask for help when you’re stuck, but I am encouraging everyone to take STEPS to increase your own knowledge and your skill set. It is okay to do things on your own and you do not have to rely on others to help you grow.
